Miranda and Leeann first met on Halloween in 2010. Leeann was helping her college friend (and eventual bridesmaid!) move into an apartment that she would be sharing with Miranda. Miranda was delighted to discover that her new roommate came with a group of cool nerd ladies, and the “Anime Club” hung out regularly to chat about life, help each other with crafts, and nerd out about Japan. Leeann moved to Minnesota, then to California in 2012, but always wished she could spend more time with Miranda, and may have admitted to having stronger feelings to several friends and coworkers.

Throughout 2020 and 2021, after Leeann had moved back to the east coast, Miranda and Leeann increasingly leaned on each other for support and their friendship deepened.

Eventually, Leeann’s affections grew too great. On a backpacking trip in the White Mountains*, Leeann admitted her love to Miranda, who foolishly said “How flattering!” and turned her down.

And yet, they continued to grow closer. Miranda encouraged Leeann to move to Boston, and to rent an apartment only 5 minutes away from her. As they spent more time at each other’s homes, Miranda found herself wishing that she could find someone as amazing as Leeann, or that they could get platonically married and live together forever, until she eventually realized that she was indeed in love with Leeann herself. After the great bisexual panic of Anime Boston 2022, Miranda boldly propositioned Leeann and they started their romance.

Leeann and Miranda have spent the past couple years discussing how great birds are, cosplaying, visiting Japan, celebrating the Green line extension, and building a home together. Leeann proposed on their 2-year anniversary in front of the backyard dahlias with an antique ring from Miranda’s family, and Miranda counter-proposed in the same spot with Leeann’s family just 2 months later!

On May 31, 2025, Leeann and Miranda will wed at Gore Place in Waltham, MA. They’re excited to celebrate their unexpected (but was it, really?) love story with friends and family 🙂

* Miranda insists that this trip was technically their first date, even if neither of them knew it at the time
